ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Jen (슬기, or Seulgi) and I am a Korean American from NJ who will be living in South Korea for a year to serve as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. I created this blog as a way to document my experience and to challenge myself to stay connected with my family, friends, and church community while I am abroad. I pray that you may be blessed by reading this blog, whether it's in the form of encouragement through how God speaks to me, laughter as I share anecdotes of silly mistakes I'll make, growing in knowledge and appreciation of Korean history and culture alongside of me, being challenged to make a big decision in your life, or however else this blog may speak to you.
I'll be sharing a lot about myself in my blog posts throughout this journey, but here are some fun facts about me to start:
-
I am afraid of birds and deer!!! I'll probably scream and/or run away if they come near me
-
My brain likes to remember dates/years of random events in my life. If we experienced an event together, I will most likely remember the general month and year, if not the exact date. Why my brain chooses to invest so much in THIS I do not know :')
-
I have never left North America (although this is about to change!)
-
The last time I drank a can of soda was in 2013. I don't like the fizziness of sodas
-
I think languages are super fascinating (hence I'll be language teaching and learning in Korea)! I have a language exchange friend from Korea and we try to talk on the phone with each other once a week (we've been doing this since 2020!)
I am grateful and excited to invite you to come alongside of me in the journey that this next year will bring! Please don't hesitate to reach out to share your thoughts on my blog posts or to share how you are doing, too~
